A credit and personal finance expert for more than 15 years, he has been quoted in or appeared on Good Morning America, NBC Nightly News, the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and hundreds of other media outlets around the U.S. and the world. He has had his work published in Business Insider, CBS MoneyWatch, American Banker, USNews.com and more.

Matt is not a banker or an economist. He is a husband and a dad. He is a former journalist who has run multiple newsrooms – and he is a guy who had $10,000 in credit card debt and a monthly payment on a brand new car in his 20s, primarily because of his own bad choices. Now, he is on a mission to help people make better decisions than he made and to wield the power they have over their own money.

He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where he lives today.
